New Year, New Mojo

Good morning, afternoon, evening; whatever time it is that you’re reading this. I’m so excited to be back! This year, it’s really going to be mostly gas and few brakes! (realistically, this year will be full of ups and downs and there need to be some brakes in order to keep up and remain sane.) However it goes though, this is the first official post of 2021 and so I must start by saying HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Whew! This year is just getting started and it’s already been hectic. We’ve seen a domestic terrorist attack on Washington, more 45 shenanigans, and the state of Georgia turned blue by electing the two democratic senators into office. It’s definitely been quite a first week of 2021, but I’m here to get you through week two.

This week, I want to focus on the right now. Last year was a lot, but it revealed some very important information for us. One of the biggest overall lessons we were given was to live completely in every moment. So now that we’re at the start of a new year, this is a chance to apply what we’ve learned. Most of us struggle with the weight of our world every single day. People go day in and day out constantly consumed with “just making it to tomorrow,” but we should really reevaluate that sentiment. For one thing we know, tomorrow isn’t promised. Hell, the frankness of it is that the next minute isn’t promised; so why are we all tied up in getting past this moment that we’ve made it to? I know personally, I can get so distracted by what needs to be done, by all the things going wrong, by all the things that I can’t even control, that I forget to appreciate my moments until they’re memories. Wow, what a word that is because I know that so many people can relate.

We can always talk about our memories; how great that day was, remember the time when, and I wish I could just do that again. Do you remember where your focus was when those things were going on though? That beautiful vacation that you went on, I’m sure you remember how it looked, but do you remember what the air smelled like the day that you were packing to go home? Or were you already disengaged from that moment because you were dreading leaving it? See, I’ve noticed that often enough, we get so caught up in what’s happened or what’s coming, that we forget to appreciate what’s going on around us.

So this week, let’s focus on being present in each moment. Leave the past behind you, don’t worry about what’s going on later, just be wherever you are. We’ve made it this far, so why not live to the fullest? I know it’s easier said than done, but we can at least give it a try.
