Lacking Motivation?

It’s the beginning of the week again. Here we are, faced with yet another Monday. It’s not the worst day in the world for most of us today. We are able to see another week, we have another chance to start over; some people had plans for today, but they didn’t make it this far. So let’s try to be grateful for this Monday. Now while I know that being grateful is the easy part, what do we do about the days where we just don’t have the motivation to do anything except wake up and be grateful and go back to sleep? How do we deal with a lack of motivation?

It happens to everyone; some days you wake up and you just don’t feel like it. There’s a lot of things that can lead to a lack of motivation. Stress, diet, exhaustion, illness, lack of inspiration and an array of other things can cause us to simply not want to do whatever needs to be done. The good news is, nobody expects you to be pep squad captain everyday. There are ways to get past a lack of motivation. These are a couple of the steps I take when I’m feeling undermotivated.

Firstly, it’s important to try to identify what’s causing you to not be motivated. Most recently for me, I have been SUPER exhausted. Most days I wake up and it feels like i haven’t slept more than 20 minutes. As frustrating as it can be, I know that I’ve been unmotivated because I haven’t been resting well. That’s where the second step comes in.

After identifying what’s making you feel like you do, try to make a plan to tackle it. It’s hard to get anything done without the proper motivation and it’s not always easy to jumpstart that motivation. Find something that will combat the cause. So for example, if you’re feeling exhausted, try to take a lighter workload for a couple days or drink some tea before bed to help you sleep through the night and feel refreshed in the morning.

The last bit of advice I have is to take care of yourself. Make sure that you’re not putting too much pressure on yourself. Take time to reflect and relax. You can’t perform well if you aren’t at your best. Take care of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

It happens to all of us, but it’s important to know when to fight through it and when to give yourself a break. This week, let’s focus on getting back our motivation. Do some yoga, eat your favorite food, whatever works for you. Have a happy, safe, and warm Monday. We can do this again next week!
