We all know the saying, “don’t hate the player, hate the game.” Well, Molly Bloom showed up to the party and may have given a reason for people to hate both. Netflix movie, “Molly’s Game,” is the story of once professional skier, Molly Bloom, that ran a high-stakes poker game for about 10 years on both sides of the country before being arrested by the FBI.
After retiring from the Olympics, Bloom found herself looking for redemption and moving to LA for a fresh start. After a couple of serving jobs, she found herself the assistant of a extremely needy and once considerably wealthy man whose name was changed to protect his identity. As part of being his assistant, he assigned Molly to help run his exclusive underground poker game. This is where it all started for her. This is where things all changed.
Postponing her entrance in law school, Molly regularly ran poker games. She learned everything there was to know about the game and she successfully ran games for her boss while still working full time as his assistant in Los Angeles for about 3 years. She eventually took the game over for herself.
This isn’t so much a spoiler, because the real heat is still to come. Where did she go wrong? When did she become a suspect for the FBI? When did she get caught up with the Russian Mob? When did a proper, high-stakes, game of poker, turn into the investigation that was out to send her to prison in coalition with some of the meanest, baddest, most vile crime syndicates in the world? Was Molly Bloom guilty of all the things her indictment implicated? Well, that part is up for you to figure out and the only way to come up with your own inferences, as I have mine, is to watch Molly’s Game on Netflix. My only note here is one we’re all very familiar with, “don’t hate the player, hate the game.”
